Science fiction is the genre that comes to mind when I think of his acting abilities.
It seems that there is a pattern of casting him in unnatural roles, or stylized roles. He is also known for playing the main character who happens to be a zombie in the 2013 Warm Bodies film ( 3). He played the role of “Beast” in the 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past film. Nicholas Hoult played a villain’s minion turned good guy in Mad Max: Fury Road.
He played the role of a gay hoodlum in the 2008 film RocknRolla ( 4). He played the villain known as “Bane” in the 2012 The Dark Knight Rises, and also played “Shinzon”, the villain in Star Trek: Nemesis. I have to classify Tom Hardy as a character actor because he shows that he is “able to fit invisibly into a wide variety of disparate characters, adapting to the needs of each script and director” that he gets to work with ( 1). Tom Hardy has played many different character types, but there seems to be a consistency to his abilities. The actors that I will be analyzing are Tom Hardy (Mad Max), Nicholas Hoult (Nux), and Charlize Theron (Imperator Furiosa).
